Red Mug Cozies

To start off my Christmas blogging, I made some really simple mug cozies that I think would be a really great present in combination with some plain white mugs and hot chocolate mix. I know I enjoyed sipping hot chocolate out of these while watching a cheesy Christmas movie.

To make these, I just used some red wool-ease I had in my stash and a sample piece of leather that I cut into two squares. I have written the instructions for the cozies I have made, but these will vary depending on the size of your mug.

  1. Slip knot and chain 11
  2. Turn, chain 1 and single crochet across.
  3. Repeat step 2, for 27 row.
  4. Slip stitch three stitches, then on the fourth single crochet the next four stitches.
  5. Turn, chain 1 and single crochet 3 stitches. Repeat this for 2 rows.
  6. Turn and sc2tog, sc2tog
  7. Turn and sc2tog, cut and pull through.
  8. Sew in the loose strands.

At this point, the cozy should look like this overall. I don’t think it looks very cute on it’s own, but it is super cute on the cup. Next, you can sew on the button, or use whatever you have that will fit through the crochet stitches. Make sure to do this on the side that will not be going through the handle.

After you have sewn your button on and make sure you don’t have any loose strings, you can attach the cozies to your cups and fill them with hot chocolate and plenty of whipped cream!

I hope you enjoyed this post and it gave you some inspiration to make some cute presents! Something like this is really simple and quick to make. I have more posts planned for DIY presents so look out if this is something you’re interested in.
